E-Bike Safety and Regulations

Ensuring the safety of our students is our top priority. In partnership with the Yucaipa Police Department, we are taking proactive steps to address the recent increase in e-bike incidents within our community.

Mandatory Permitting Course

The Yucaipa Police Department is developing a mandatory e-bike permitting course. This course will be required for any student to operate an e-bike in the City of Yucaipa or ride one to school. Detailed information regarding registration and schedules will be sent before the end of the school year.  The program will take effect on the first day of the next school year; however, it is crucial to immediately communicate with your children to ride responsibly and safely.

Strict Enforcement & Fines

There is currently a "Zero Tolerance" for non-compliant e-bikes. Please be aware of the following:

  • Illegal E-Bikes: "Pedal-less" e-bikes (electric motorcycles/dirt bikes) are prohibited.

  • Fines: Citations for illegal e-bikes start at $2,000, plus impound fees.

  • Sidewalks: All e-bikes must remain off sidewalks and utilize designated bike lanes responsibly.

Please review the linked Comprehensive E-Bike Guide with your child. It explains the legal differences between Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes and outlines the specific ordinances that will be enforced.

If you have questions, please contact our Manager of Communications and Safety, Lance Bradley, or comment below. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe.
