Yucaipa High School was proud to participate in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Day on Friday, September 12, joining schools and districts across the nation in celebrating the transformative power of education and opportunity.
AVID Day honored the remarkable efforts of educators who closed the opportunity gap—and celebrated the students who thrived because of AVID strategies. It was a day to recognize the real, lasting impact of AVID on student achievement and life trajectories. For 29 years, Yucaipa High School partnered with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) to help students unlock their full potential. Through AVID, students not only rose above academic challenges but also developed lifelong skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and goal-setting that prepared them for success in college, careers, and beyond. Thanks to this partnership, powerful results were seen:
90% of AVID students since 2020 have completed A–G college entrance requirements, ensuring more students are truly college and career-ready.
5,500 students enrolled in YHS AVID over the past 29 years, reflecting the program’s long-standing impact and reach.
YHS AVID seniors averaged a 3.6 GPA, demonstrating consistent academic excellence.
86% of AVID seniors who attended college persisted into their second year, showing strong preparation for long-term success.
Joined the Celebration: Shared AVID Stories
On this AVID Day, the community—students, educators, alumni, and families—shared their own AVID journeys by completing the phrase: “Because of AVID, I…” Whether it was a personal triumph, a skill gained, or a goal achieved, these stories spotlighted the power of AVID in action. Stories were shared on social media using #MyAVIDWhy and tagged @yucaipacalimesajusd and/or @yucaipahigh.
Together, we honored the people and experiences that made AVID more than a program—it was a life-changing experience.
