Personal Finance Classes Explore Investing

Mr. Brush's Personal Finance classes are in the middle of an investing unit and playing the game called STAX.  This game teaches students how to invest using an engaging, fast-paced software in which students make 20 years of investment decisions in....20 minutes. They get to choose among savings accounts, CDs, stocks, bonds, index funds, commodities, and gold while also learning about the importance of having an emergency fund as "life happens" to them in this simulation.  Every six months students were given additional funds ("pocket money") to deploy into the various investment options allowing them to change their strategies on the fly based on market conditions.  Each of the investments were unlocked over time to scaffold the learning for students.

YCEEF Grant Award

The Yucaipa High School Art Department received a grant from Yucaipa-Calimesa Educational Enrichment Foundation (YCEEF), which was used by the ceramics program to purchase a slab roller. We are trying to bring the program into the 21st century and this is a solid move in that direction”. Fellow art teacher Lori Gifford adding, “YCEEF has been a strong supporter of YHS and we are grateful for that, we hope everyone will help us support the Yucachella fundraiser Nov. 3rd.”
