Preparing for the November 30th application deadline, YHS senior Engineering Academy students stand in front of the bell tower at the University of California Riverside during a campus visit which included a tour of the dorms, as well as, the Bourns College of Engineering.

Engineering Advisory Council Meeting

Last week, Engineering Academy students presented to Advisory Board members to show them what they have been working on in their classes.

Students from the 11th grade Civil Engineering and Architectural Design class presented their Architectural Design projects where they researched different time periods and their effect on the designs of the times.

Students then built models to show the specific elements of their chosen time period.

12th grade Engineering Design and Development students presented their Animatronics project they designed and build for use in the Haunted House this past weekend.

Mr. Worsey's Ceramics Class

Mr. Worsey is the new Ceramics teacher at YHS and brings a wealth of enthusiasm and knowledge to the School of Design

As a part of her transition English course, senior Jazmine Johnson received support to obtain her food handler's license and promptly obtained not one but two jobs at the Pumpkin Patch and Rosie's!  Way to go Jaz!

Creating a Lung at YHS

Health and Biomedical science students in Mr. Piercy’s chemistry
classes constructed and tested a “model lung” to demonstrate the
principle of negative pressure breathing governed by “Boyle’s Law.”
Students Madyson Kerns and Michael Hajkowski conduct the
experiment and record the simulated breathing rate using a labquest,
computer, and pressure sensor.

Carlos Aguilar Returns to YHS
Carlos Aguilera, a 2009 YHS graduate, provided college and career advice to AVID students on Sept. 9. A former AVID student, Aguilera earned his undergraduate degree in Criminal Science from San Diego State University, and is working on his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Cal Poly Pomona, while currently taking part in a fellowship program between Gov. Brown's office and Sacramento State University.

Day 2 of Engineering English 10: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity. Students in Mrs. Carpenter's classes showed off their super skills for twenty-first century learning!! Given two household / office items and limited stock materials, each group had 20 minutes to devise and create a finished product. When they were done, groups presented their repurposed items to the class.


Night in the Trenches at YHS

Friday night into Saturday morning, 150 YHS sophomores and
juniors participated in the historical reenactment of World War I
trench warfare. Created by YHS faculty members John Taylor and
David Paul, students and local reenactors participated in a realistic
World War I battle scene.

Yucaipa High School sent its seniors out into the world of college,
service and career Wednesday night.

Drama Students having a video chat with one of the heads of actors equity (the actors union) they learned how to get into the acting profession and what equity could do for them. They video conference from new York city!
