Summer School Art Class
Our summer school art class under the direction of Douglas Keith had his students collaborate on a feather project that they made into a wall art mural.

Madrigals Perform In Washington D.C.
The YHS Madrigal Singers were invited to perform for some special 2019 Memorial Day ceremonies in Washington DC, including a concert in the Kennedy Center and the opening ceremonies of the televised Memorial Day Parade.

HBS Biology Poster Project
Ms. Alonzo's second period HBS Biology class is finishing up their body systems poster. The bodies will be transported over to Mrs. Whiting's PBS class to help with the development of their final CERS (claim, evidence and reasoning) in preparation for the 9th grade HBS symposium!

T-Birds Make a Difference!

VFW Mementos Get A Makeover
VFW Post 7347 has been a pillar of support in our community. From coordinating welcome home celebrations to providing scholarships, VFW Post 7347 shows their support of our students. Just in time for Memorial Day, a YHS art student had the chance to show appreciation for the veterans. VFW member John Kucherer brought two very sentimental items to the YHS Arts & Crafts class and asked if they could be spruced up. Advanced Art student and varsity soccer player, Caden Mink, was charged with painting the two challenging objects - an artillery shell and an aircraft propeller blade. Caden painted a design with patriotic red, white and blue, stars and stripes. The VFW post will proudly display these special items.

Tyler Role Receives Honors
Senior Tyler Role was recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship and a new computer from A New Day Foundation. He also received $1,275 from the Angel City Links Scholarship Fund. Tyler plans on attending Cal State Los Angeles in the Fall.

Human Trafficking Speaker
Author and radio personality, Opal Singleton, spoke to Freshmen Seminar students about the subtle ways kids are being lured into Human Trafficking. She encouraged our students to make wise choices to keep themselves safe.

YHS Archers Hit Their Marks
A big shout out to our YHS Archery team for placing 4th in the California State Archery Competition. Congratulations to Branden Probst for placing 1st for men and Hannah Griep placing 8th for women. This qualified the team to compete at the National Archery Competition in May. Go T-Birds!

Poisson D'Avril!
On April Fool's Day, French children cut out and color paper fish to put on the backs of their fellow classmates or anyone else that they can trick. Students in Mr. Strickland's French class were very successful in painting the YHS campus with colorful fish. If you were wondering why a fish fell off of you or got home and found one attached to you, POISSON D'AVRIL!

YHS Archery Team On Target
Our very own Archery Team took 2nd place at the Los Angeles Regional Archery Competition over Spring Break. The team qualified to compete at the California State Archery Competition in two weeks. Congratulations T-BIrds!


Young Artists Gallery Honors
Yucaipa Calimesa schools are well represented with a record 20 artists accepted into this year's Young Artists Gallery. The young artist reception and award ceremony was held March 14th at the Orange Show. This exhibit was sponsored by the office of the San Bernardino Superintendent of Schools, Ted Alejandre. Yucaipa art teachers were allowed to enter five students into this juried show, where judges decided which artwork would be chosen for the gallery. "We knew that Yucaipa's entries would be competing against every other high school in San Bernardino County. It is an honor just to be chosen for the show. It's icing on the cake to win an award" said Yucaipa High school's newest art teacher, Justin Healy, who has the first place winner, Saela Wardlow in his class. We are very proud of our new teacher and his students.
Yucaipa High School represented artists: Saela Wardlow, awarded a 1st place. Allyson Orr received a 3rd place. Honorable Mentions awards went to Serena Duran, Shealyn Wood, Kateland Peters, Hilary Gil, Krista Robbins, Hunter Scullin and Aeverie Gillen. In addition, Amanda Huddleston, Daisy Rodriguez, Natalie Marroquin, Angela Robles, Madison Elliot, Emiliano Arizmendi and Ana Del Orbe were also chosen for display in the gallery.
There will be other opportunities to view some of the student's art on display - April 6th at the Yucaipa Community Center during the Yucaipa Valley Art Association Spring Art Show and May 3rd at YHS during the Spring Arts Festival.
Freshman Seminar Students Experiment With Beer Goggles
Mrs. Wolfe's Freshmen Seminar students got a chance to experiment with Beer Goggles during class today (BAC ranged from 0.07 - 0.10).

Speech & Debate Team Members Trophied At State Champion Qualifying Tournament
Speech & Debate had their State Championship Qualifying Tournament over the weekend at Carter High School. YHS had four speakers place in the tournament and two of them qualify for the State Championship Tournament in Long Beach in May! Kara Lehr (10) and Sonia Campos (11) trophied in the Duo Interpretation event, Chloe Banaag (9) trophied in the Program Oral Interpretation event and qualified for State Championships, and Audrey Taylor (10) trophied in the Original Advocacy event, also qualifying her for State Championships. Congratulations Ladies!

Eye-Opening Career Opportunity Shared With HBS Students
Last week students had an "eye-opening" experience when Loma Linda Dr. Tim Winter DO presented to our HBS 9th graders about his experiences as an Ophthalmologist and the training it took to achieve his goals.

Jakob Fermanian Receives DAR Good Citizen Award
Arrowhead Valley Chapter held their annual DAR Good Citizen Award program on February 8, 2019. This year’s program featured students from Redlands East Valley High School, Yucaipa High School, Redlands High School, and Citrus Valley High School. Program Chair Lisa Long introduced this year’s award winners, Laverne Clerk, Jakob Fermanian, Yulissa Navarro and Nicolas Ryan Duke. Each of the four Good Citizen Award winners read their essays on the topic “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility to Preserve It. What New Challenges Will We Face?” Following their presentations, Long presented each student with a NSDAR Good Citizens Pin, Certificate, wallet card and a monetary gift from Arrowhead Valley Chapter NSDAR. Congratulations Jakob!

Students Enjoying A Break From Screen Time
In the last two weeks several board games and decks of cards have been added to the library in hopes that students would enjoy taking a break from screen time. There has been a positive response and while the majority still choose to be on their phones, there are a handful that do play the games before and after school and during lunch.

AP Biology Students Transform Bacteria To Glow
AP Biology students in Mrs. Caricato's classroom transformed bacteria to express the luciferase gene and make them glow. Students have been learning about prokaryotes (bacteria) in class and how they can be manipulated for medical purposes.

Former YHS student and San Bernardino Police Department Officer, Gabriel Garcia, and his father, retired San Bernardino Police Captain, Ron Garcia shared Gabriel's story surrounding his recovery from being shot in the line of duty August 2014 with Freshmen Seminar students.

YHS Alumni-Inspirational Speaker Breke Sperling
YHS alumni and inspirational speaker Breke Sperling spoke to our Freshman Seminar students this week. Breke was one of Mrs. Gavigan's student not so long ago. He came to share his story of hard work and recovery following an almost fatal motorcycle accident on Yucaipa Boulevard over two years ago. Although Mrs. Gavigan stopped at the accident following the impact, she didn’t know it was him. Following a three month long coma, many surgeries and lots of OT, PT and speech therapy, he was able to walk into the career center and tell his story.

YHS AP Biology students visited UCR to participate in DNA extraction, gene isolation, gene amplification and electrophoresis. YHS students worked with UCR students from the Dynamic Genome Outreach Group where they were able to identify their specific genotypes for their phenotypes.

Academic Awards Reception
Today we celebrated the academic achievements of our student population with academic letters, bars and stars. Our administration and counseling department team served pizza and drinks to students during bpth lunches. It was a great time to celebrate these students.

Creating 3-D Biomolecules
Students in Mrs. RIchter's classroom build 3-D structures of biomolecules and use them to look at similarities and differences in structure that relate to function.

New Drawing Tablets For VAPA
YHS appreciates the support for visual arts from our school district. Art students in Mr. Hudson's Computer Graphic Design classes will be using new drawing tablets, purchased with LCAP funds, as they create a character illustration from a photograph. This is a demo project featuring a famous character from YHS.

Mock Trial Team Goes To Court
The Mock Trial Defense Team faced REV on Tuesday at the San Bernardino Superior Court. The competition was fierce and in the end the defendant was able to walk free due to the hard work and effort of the team.

One Legacy Medical Symposium
Health and Biomedical Academy students attended the One Legacy Medical Symposium. This medical conference was for medical professionals to learn current information about organ, eye, and tissue donation. It was an honor for One Legacy to invite Yucaipa High students to attend.

YCEEF Grant Award
The Yucaipa High School Art Department received a grant from Yucaipa-Calimesa Educational Enrichment Foundation (YCEEF), which was used by the ceramics program to purchase a slab roller. The simple machine allows students to roll the clay into flat slabs, which then can be used in different ways. The ceramics teacher Nathan Worsey said of the machine “Slabs are one of the most basic building techniques in ceramics, but without this machine they were using wooden dowels and rolling pins, which isn’t easy to do. We are trying to bring the program into the 21st century and this is a solid move in that direction”. Fellow art teacher Lori Gifford adding, “YCEEF has been a strong supporter of YHS and we are grateful for that, we hope everyone will help us support the Yucachella fundraiser Nov. 3rd.”

Great Shake Out Drill
The annual Great Shake Out Earthquake Drill was held today with Yucaipa High and surrounding communities being encouraged to drop, cover and hold to test their level of preparedness for a major earthquake. The Investigation Begins for 1st Year HBS Students
Our 1st Year Health and Biomedical students have begun their year-long investigation into a mysterious death. Students are currently analyzing evidence from the scene and using laboratory experiments to determine the time of death.

Folklorico - Latino Cultural Club
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Latino Cultural Club will be presenting a special performance by the St. Mary's Ballet Folklorico of Redlands on Friday, October 5, 2018 in the YHS MPR.
The doors will open at 6:00pm - seating is first come, first served. The performance will be from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Tickets are $5 each (kids 5 and under are free). YHS Staff and Family are free. Alumni Visit to Share College Experience
Former YHS students returned to speak to Mr. Stewart's English classes about their college experience. Students included Paige Wronka (Cal Baptist), Briana Samuelsen (Cal State San Bernardino), Tyler Salinas (University of New Mexico), Kaitlyn Alvarado (University of Mary), Toni Freitas (SDSU), Katalina Salinas (U of Hawaii), and Noah Rodgers (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs).

Personal Finance Class for Seniors
Yesterday marked the first day of YHS' new Personal Finance Class for Seniors taught by Mr. Brush. Topics will include: Checking, Savings, Credit, Investing, Taxes, Budgeting, Paying for College, Career, and Insurance. In today's lesson, students were placed in groups and given 25 beans representing their "family" monthly income. They were tasked to budget their income over various needs and wants. Halfway through the activity they were told that one of them lost their job because of being tardy too many times and they now only have 20 beans of income to work with.

G Award at UC Santa Barbara - Girls Basketball
The YHS girls basketball team spent the weekend at UC Santa Barbara where they got to stay in the dorms and compete against teams from the area. The team went 4-1 and were awarded the G Award for teamwork and tenacity for the tournament. They received a Gaterade cooler filled with Gaterade products like wrist bands and energy chews.

SWAT Training at Yucaipa High
On June 19th the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department conducted SWAT Training at Yucaipa High. Personnel from several local agencies including police and fire departments participated in this hands-on training. Students from the Explorer program also assisted in these exhilarating exercises. Even our administration team got involved with several scenarios which provided them a "real time" experience.

Yucaipa Track and Field's Greatest of All Time
Senior Asani Hampton cemented his status as Yucaipa Track and Field's greatest athlete of all time with two second place finishes at the State Track and Field Championships Saturday in Clovis. Hampton ran 10.45 in the 100 meters and 21.13 in the 200 meters. Thank you Asani for all of the amazing memories you gave all of us at YHS.

Incoming 9th grade Park View Middle School students got an early taste of high school. Students made several trips to the high school this year when they toured the campus, sat in classes and met with current YHS students who answered all of their questions pertaining to high school life and expectations. Students tried on a graduation gown to experience the sense of pride and accomplishment from earning a high school diploma at YHS.

A Night In The Trenches Helps Veterans Today
On Tuesday in the YHS Career Center Beth Olson from The Soldiers' Project, a Los Angeles-based non-profit that connects active duty military, post 9/11 veterans and their families with free psychiatric care, spoke to over 250 AP US & European history and psychology students about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Last weekend's A Night in the Trenches event raised $3,000 to help The Soldier's Project in its mission of providing free-of-cost services to current and former service men & women coping with PTSD.

Thunderbirds Make CIF Finals
Yucaipa High School defeated Ayala 7-3 Tuesday. Vinny Alvarez threw a gutty 5 2/3rds for a non-decision as Tyson Heaton (11-0) picked up the win. Yucaipa rallied for 4 runs in the top of the 7th for the win. YHS improves to 27-5. We take on #1 seed Beckman HS.

Hampton Wins Masters 100 Meters
Senior Asani Hampton won the 100 meter run at the CIF Masters Meet Saturday. Hampton also finished second in the 200 meter run.

On Monday evening, the Law and Public Safety Academy celebrated its first graduates; Class 1. Class 1 dedicated their plaque to the school and passed the torch on to Class 2. Congrats Class 1!!!

Studying Urbanization in Los Angeles
Ms. Young's students visited Los Angeles Saturday for the purpose of studying urbanization. The students visited Union Station, the first firehouse, Olvera St, Chinatown, Buddhist Temple, and the government sector of Los Angeles (courthouse, LAPD, LA Times, Little Tokyo) via the Metrolink and light rail.

A Plasmid Containing the GFP Gene at YHS
Students in Ms. Richter's Medical Interventions class successfully transform E coli bacteria with a plasmid containing the GFP gene for the green fluorescent protein from jelly fish and learn it will only be expressed in the presence of arabinose.

Hampton Runs 10.26 for 100 Meters
Senior Asani Hampton ran 10.26 in the 100 meters at last Thursday's league finals. This makes Hampton the number two performer in the U.S. at this event.

YHS Students Visit CSU Fullerton Engineering School
Sophomore Engineering Academy students toured CSU Fullerton(one of the great west coast universities-.ed), May 1. Engineering grad students walked us through Civil and Mechanical Engineering workshops. CSUF engineering goes beyond the classroom; learning happens through project design and build. Students enter competitions, too, like the annual National Concrete Canoe Competition and compete against Formula SAE teams from other universities!

The Boys Volleyball Team finished Citrus Belt League play 12-0, winning yet another League Championship. Over the past 10 years, the volleyball team may well be the most dominant sports team in the CBL.

YHS girls head soccer coach Sarai Stamper proudly presents Leili Sanabia with an All CIF award for Division II. This is a very big honor for any player, but especially notable for a freshman player. Leili’s other accomplishments this 2018 season include team offense MVP, and CBL league MVP. She is a stellar freshman and incredibly talented as she scored the most goals in the CBL. She is humble and always puts her teammates first. Congratulation Leili Sanabia!

Hampton Earns Invitation to US Nationals
We'll see you in Seattle, Washington June 8th for the Brooks PR High School Nationals for Track and Field thanks to Mr. Asani Hampton who took on 8 of the states top sprinters at the Mt. Sac Relays Invitational. Hampton took first with a time of 10.51 and was televised nationally on the USATRACKANDFIELD network. Way to represent Yucaipa, Inland Empire, and the Citrus Belt League.

LPS Fire Training with Cal Fire
On March 26, 2018, 15 Fire Science students from the Law and Public Safety (LPS) Academy experienced the same training all firefighters go through in a Fire Control 3 Class with CAL FIRE personnel. These lucky students experienced wearing breathing apparatuses, full-structure gear, deploying hose line to control and extinguish fires, and learned to keep the safety of themselves and the public in mind at the forefront. There were also LPS 9th and 10th grade students that observed and learned from other fire personnel during the burn.

After interviewing six Yucaipa High School Junior boys, the American Legion Boys State representatives selected Oliver Garcia as the delegate. Trevor Scott was selected as an alternate.
Oliver Garcia will spend a week this summer at California State University, Sacramento with junior boys from across the state. This is a great opportunity for Oliver to participate in a weeklong program that is primarily comprised of funcitonal hands-on activities that promote learning by doing. The program is designed to increase awareness and knowledge of governmental processes and students are encouraged to be innovative and are not bound by rigid design

Block Y Athlete of the Week
Tori Guzman led the girls basketball team in scoring, averaging 17 points a game. She scored 21 in game against Cajon to clinch the CBL title for the second year in a row. She also had 21 points Wednesday night in our playoff game.

After interviewing six Yucaipa High School Junior girls, the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State representatives selected Maria Sabbah as the delegate. Brooklyn Oxandaboure was selected as a first alternate and Kenna Morrison was second alternate.
Maria Sabbah will spend a week this summer at Claremont McKenna College with junior girls from across the state. This is a great opportunity for Maria to participate in a weeklong leadership program learning about government in a hands-on manner. The program is designed to increase awareness and knowledge of governmental processes while teaching young women about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

YHS cheer competing in the National High School Cheer Championships in Florida. The team made the semi finals, which was awesome, and finished 11th. Unfortunately, the top 10 were selected for finals. Great effort!!

Mock Swap Meet at YHS
On February 9th, Mr. Lewis' Economics classes held a mock swap meet where students produced products, marketed products online and in print, and sold them on the open market. Through their reflections, students gain a better understanding of scarcity, supply and demand and the relationships to price, marketing, inflation, government regulation and taxation. It was a great way to send them off into a 3-day weekend.

CBL champs go to Oak Glen and play with baby goats! Did a little team bonding up in Oak Glen. We ate Carmel apples and went through the Oak Glen petting zoo where we got to hold a 3 day old baby goat and pet llamas, pot belly pigs and other animals.

Golden Bell Award Winners at YHS
Yucaipa High School teachers John Taylor and David Paul received a Golden Bell from the California School Board Association last month. Taylor and Paul received the Golden Bell award for their yearly World War I reenactment "A Night In The Trenches" that involves hundreds of students and helps bring understanding of the first great war to many others at YHS. Thunderbird Marching Regiment Wraps Up Successful Fall
Out of four competitions, we took two 2nd place trophies and two 1st place as well. Out of 28 groups in our division, we were selected as part of the top 12 to participate in the SCSBOA Field Championships on November 18th and we ended our season in 10th place out of the twelve championship groups.We also qualified once again as guest performers in the Disneyland Resort Community Arts Showcase, so the Thunderbird Marching Regiment will be performing in January and the Symphonic Band in February.I'm really proud of the students once again this season not only in their successful outcome, but in their diligence and drive as well. I'm also excited to see what next year's TMR can do since we only have a small amount of seniors in the regiment, and the middle school numbers are consistently growing as well.

Hope Gutierrez was recently voted the Inland Empire Best Buddies Advisor of the Year. A tireless defender of her students, Ms. Gutierrez is largely responsible for special needs students being accepted as full stakeholders at YHS.

Getting Ready for College at YHS
October kicked off our Financial Aid and College Application Awareness Campaign. Students had the opportunity to show proof of completed college applications the week of November 13th to secure a raffle ticket for each application. YHS Football Sets New Standard
There was a time, YHS had just entered the legendary Citrus Belt League, when the campus hoped maybe we could squeak out a win here or there in this very competitive new league. Here we are now in 2017 and the football team has posted 28 wins over the past three seasons, including beating all three Redlands high schools. YHS congratulates Coach Justin Price, his staff and his amazing team.

Cheer Team at SoCal Regional
Over the weekend our varsity competition cheer team competed at the UCA southern California regional. They earned their bid to the National High School Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fl. They also took home first place!

Thunderbird Marching Regiment at Ramona High School
The YHS TMR went to their last official competition on Saturday at Ramona High School. They received a score of 64.5, which was a score that was combined with their 3 other competitions and it qualified them to go to Championships next weekend in Downey. The group earned 2nd place for the 1A division at the comp. There were only 12 bands in the 1A divisions that qualified to continue to Championships and YHS TMR was one of them!

Interact Shopping for Holidays
Interact Club students shopped with Rotary Club members for Thanksgiving meals. Meals will be delivered right before Thanksgiving.

YCEEF Grants For YHS
At the Nov. 6 YCUSD Board Meeting, YCEEF awarded grant checks to teachers. Teachers applied for grants for equipment/supplies to enrich the education of their students: 3 of the winners were from YHS VAPA-Technology Dept. Pitcher applied for a new video camera, Worsey applied for a clay slab roller,Young applied for 11 guitars. All this was made possible with the community's support for fundraising and generous volunteers from YCEEF. THANK YOU!

Cross Country Teams Dominate the CBL
Citrus Belt League Cross Country finals were held at Community Park Saturday night. Boys JV, Girls JV, Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity won CBL team championships. Individual titles were won by Tilicia Santiago, Danielle Gee and Blake Rodriguez. YHS Cross Country teams, since the school's founding in 1959, have won 60 varsity league championships.

YHS Girls at the 2017 Teen Summit
The 2017 Teen Summit last Friday was attended by YHS girls from the Engineering , HBS, and LPS academies. The field trip was sponsored by the Girls Scouts and was designed to introduce high school girls to a variety of like skills like resume writing, budgeting, communication,networking, conflict resolution, and even dorm life in college. All presentations were given by female professionals and community leaders. Bourns International, Inc. in Riverside provided the venue for the day.

Yucaipa High School participated in the statewide ShakeOut earthquake preparedness drill Thursday. As the earthquake drill wrapped up, Law and Public Safety and Health and Biomedical Sciences Academy students were alerted to a mass causality event in the quad and immediately rolled into action.

Mike Bagg Named Mountain Bike Racing National Coach of the Year
Mike Bagg, coach of the successful YHS Mountain Bike Racing Team, was just named the National Interscholastic Cycling Association Coach of the Year for 2016. Bagg, who founded the team in 2008, has guided the dominant program in Southern California. Nearly all local teams are pattered after the YHS program. read more

Sophomore Alyssa Barrick becomes the first mountain bike racer to be named a Block Y Athlete of the Week, Barrick, just finished her second season riding on the team was named the team Most Valuable Rider, earning more points than anyone on the team. Night In The Trenches 2017
Perhaps the most awaited event of the 2016/7 school year was the Night In The Trenches World War I reenactment. Developed and managed by Kaiser John Taylor and General David Paul, YHS students spent the night of May 12th on a simulated Northern France battlefield, reliving the horrors of the trenches.

FREE Summer Career Training
InTech Training for the Youth is offering two FREE programS for students interested in electrical or mechanical training. Students will be learning the Craft Fundamentals of Industrial Electrical and Mechanical Training and earning Industry recognized certifications. Upon completion, students will walk away with an OSHA – 10 Certification, NCCER: Core Certification, CPR/First-Aid Certification. June classes will also be learning a portion of Level 1 and can finish their certification here after they turn 18 if interested in continuing. Mr. Lewis' Students Collaborate to Learn WWII Events
Students in Mr. Lewis' Modern World History classes worked in collaborative groups to research major events in World War II, then created WWII Era newspapers to peer teach about the war. The newspapers included 3 articles, an obituary, an editorial and a political cartoon.The final evolution of the assignment was to gallery walk the newspapers, and answer questions according to their peers' research and writing. Innovation Challenge Team Captures 2nd Place
The Yucaipa High School Innovation Challenge team earned a strong 2nd place finish at Northrup Grumman headquarters this past weekend. The team designed a 6" cube shaped device that when activated deployed a large shield from ambient light. For their efforts, the T-Bird engineers won a $750 prize.

Freshman HBS Students at CHC
Freshman Health and Biomedical Science Academy students recently visited the new Public Safety and Allied Health building at Crafton Hills College. Students witnessed real-time emergency medical response simulations, operated respiratory therapy equipment, and toured the campus' fire training facility.

Engineering Students at Mt.SAC
The sophomore engineering academy students toured Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) on April 12. They had a chance to go behind the scenes of the theater and meet with a stage light and truss engineer. He talked to them about Entertainment Rigging for the 21st Century and some of the Rigging Math that his engineering students must know. He also emphasized how important it is for theater and stage engineers to get their math right when rigging trusses for stage lights; if a truss can't take the stress put on by the weight of the heavy lights, human lives are at stake!

Long time art instructor Jeff Marshall will retire at the end of the school year. Marshall, who has fostered the love of art and design in 1000's of Thunderbirds, looks forward to restoring his 1975 Porsche 911s and polishing his other classic cars.

HBS Students Tour AMR
Freshman Health and Biomedical Science Academy students recently toured the American Medical Response facility in Rancho Cucamonga. The students inspected ambulance bays, received ethics instruction, and took part in compression-only CPR training.

Elementary students from all over the Yucaipa Calimesa Joint Unified School District came to YHS Tuesday for a special performance of Seussical the Musical.

Feeding America Food Drive
Ned Morgan helped pick up food gathered by the YHS community for a Feeding America food drive. Morgan, long regarded as the gold standard for YHS math instruction, was amazed at how the campus had changed since his retirement.

WASC Team Now on Campus
Yucaipa High School's accreditation team from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges will be on campus through Wednesday afternoon. The team met Sunday afternoon with YHS administrators, teachers, parents and students.

Senior volleyball opposite Grant Gordon is this week's Block Y Athlete of the Week. Grant had 16 aces, 8 Blocks, 26 kills at .258 hitting percentage in 2 victories last week.

YHS Track and Field team hosted the Redlands Terriers Wednesday.

Twelve Yucaipa High School students talked with six students from Sman 5 Bandung in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The students shared their memories of favorite festivals and what these celebrations mean to them. Students at Yucaipa discussed Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Year's, Christmas, and the 4th of July and students at Sman 5 discussed Ramadan and Christmas. They found common ground in the importance of family and unity and Santa Claus and participated in respectful discourse about traditions. The video conference was facilitated by the Generation Global Foundation and teachers Nicki Young and Lisa Swank.

Congratulations to YHS Speech and Debate for earning the Leading Chapter Award in the Southern California District. This honor is based on student participation and is the highest honor you can receive from the National Speech & Debate Association. Congratulations to YHS Speech & Debate members, past and present, as well as to coach John Eichman.
